Background

Abacus Distribution Systems Malaysia Sdn, Bhd. (ABACUS Malaysia) was incorporated on April 4th, 1989 as a joint venture between National Marketing Company (NMC), Malaysia Airlines, Telekom Malaysia, Malaysia Association of Tour & Travel Agent (MATTA) and Abacus International Pte Ltd. Abacus provides services to travel agencies and airlines in Malaysia via a highly secure and reliable data communications network, operating 24-hours-a-day seven days a week. ABACUS system allows online reservation worldwide.

The ABACUS core GDS functions provide complete travel-related information about schedules, availability, fares and related services, which can be quickly retrieved through a series of keystrokes. Seat reservations are made, airline tickets are issued and an entire spectrum of passenger information is recorded in just a few minutes. Beyond this, services from many different types of travel suppliers such as hotels, car-rentals, railways, can also be provided and booked.

Travel agencies use the information provided by ABACUS to advise customers about the entire spectrum of travel options: air, hotel, car rentals, cruises, tours etc. These systems calculate fares, display availability status, issuance of tickets and provide a range of travel information like visa requirements, customs, health regulations, facilities for credit card validation, currency conversion and weather information. 

ABACUS provides comprehensive GDS services that include global travel-related information and efficient reservations functions as well as agency front, mid-office and back-office systems inclusive of valuable management reports for travel managers.

Business needs

Abacus wanted to find an effective way to update customers as well as clients about new promotions, news, service/product updates. 

Challenge

After months of research, Abacus is not able to find a vendor that offers a product version of email campaign management solution with ability to track forwarded emails and analyzes email open activities per country for partners and sisterís companies.

Solution

echo email v.2.0 is installed on Abacus' site as standalone email campaign management and systems administration. OMIS provides APIs necessary to customize product per Abacusís partner requirements: list exportations from existing customer DB, using customized script to retrieve targeted lists and use echo java based API to call echo sender module to automatically personalize and deliver promotional emails to customers.

Echo delivers comprehensive reports and data download tools to improve target segmentation and analyze response activities.
